Biopsy update: I ended up getting my preliminary results in less than 24 hours. The result is that I do have a malignant breast cancer. The type is "high grade ductal carcinoma." In English, that means a fast-growing cancer of the duct(s) in my breast.
According to The Googles, there are two types of ductal carcinomas: in situ (meaning it's still within the ducts) and invasive (meaning that the tumor has expanded outside the ducts). The verbal report that I got didn't specify which it was. I'd prefer that it be in situ (98% survival rate) but, based on what we saw earlier this week, I expect that it'll be categorized as invasive. Invasive has survival rates that vary upon details that I don't know yet, so I'm hoping to get a more full report from my doctor tomorrow.
So...next steps will be talking to surgeons - I've already made one appointment for Friday and another for next week - and possibly more diagnostics to see if it's metastasized.
That said, the survival odds that I've seen look like they are in my favor, depending on type and stage. So, I'm still quite optimistic.
